A vivid and richly colored copper-based mineral, Malachite is known for its deep green coloration, resulting from the oxidation of its copper and sulfide components. Malachite has been mined for both use in copper tools and for ornamentation and jewelry. It rarely occurs in crystal form but is often found in botryoidal or fibrous formations.
