Scientific Name: Gymnothorax kidako
Common Name: Kidako Moray
Family: Muraenidae
Adult Size: Up to approximately 36 inches (90 cm)

Appearance: A robust, muscular moray with dark brown to brownish-gray coloration and distinctive mottled markings that provide excellent camouflage among rocks and reef structures.

Natural Habitat: Found around coral reefs, rocky areas, caves, and crevices, where it typically remains sheltered within the rockwork.

Behavior: A secretive predator that spends much of its time concealed in caves and crevices. It becomes more active when searching for food and may become increasingly visible once established in an aquarium.

Diet: Carnivorous. In the wild, the Kidako Moray feeds primarily on fish, crustaceans, and cephalopods. In captivity, offer a varied diet of appropriately sized marine foods.

Aquarium Notes: Provide substantial rockwork with secure caves and hiding areas. A tightly fitted lid is essential, as moray eels are excellent escape artists. Use caution when housing with smaller fish and crustaceans that may be viewed as prey.
