Scientific Name: Enchelycore pardalis
Common Name: Dragon Moray
Family: Muraenidae
Adult Size: Up to approximately 36 inches (90 cm)

Appearance: One of the most distinctive and sought-after moray eels in the aquarium trade. The Dragon Moray features dramatic orange to reddish-brown coloration covered with contrasting white markings. Its elongated, curved jaws, prominent teeth, and tubular nostrils above the eyes give it the unmistakable dragon-like appearance for which it is named.

Natural Habitat: Native to the Indo-Pacific, where it inhabits rocky and coral reef environments. It typically shelters within caves, holes, and crevices with only its head exposed.

Behavior: A solitary, secretive predator that spends much of its time concealed within rockwork. Once established, it may become more visible, particularly around feeding time.

Diet: Carnivorous. In the wild, Dragon Morays prey on fish and crustaceans. In captivity, offer a varied diet of appropriately sized marine foods.

Aquarium Notes: Provide substantial rockwork with multiple secure caves and hiding areas. A tightly fitted aquarium lid is essential, as moray eels are excellent escape artists. Due to its predatory nature and powerful jaws, choose tankmates carefully and avoid fish or crustaceans small enough to be considered prey.
