Appearance: Colin’s Angelfish (Centropyge colini) is a beautiful and uncommon dwarf angelfish featuring a brilliant lemon-yellow body with a distinctive blue to purplish-blue band extending across the upper back and dorsal fin. A thin purplish-blue ring around the eye adds to its unique appearance.
Natural Habitat: Native to portions of the Indo-West Pacific, including Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Guam, and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. In the wild, it is a deeper-water species typically associated with steep outer reef slopes, caves, and crevices.
Behavior: A naturally secretive dwarf angelfish that spends considerable time around caves, overhangs, and rockwork. Providing plenty of established rockwork with caves and sheltered areas will help the fish feel secure as it becomes established in the aquarium.
Diet: Omnivorous. Offer a varied diet of high-quality marine angelfish preparations, marine algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, and appropriately sized pellets or flakes.
Aquarium Notes: These Colin’s Angelfish are captive bred in Japan, making them an especially unique offering of an already uncommon species. Provide a mature, well-established aquarium with excellent water quality and abundant rockwork for grazing and shelter. Like many dwarf angelfish, they are generally considered reef-safe with caution, as individual fish may nip at corals, clams, or other sessile invertebrates.
